A PAVILION ABOUT MOVEMENT, MEMORY & BECOMING
El Salvador’s Pavilion at La Biennale di Venezia 2026 presents Cartographies of the Displaced, an exhibition by J. Oscar Molina that examines displacement as a defining condition of contemporary life, shaped by movement, memory, resilience, and transformation. Through sculpture, material presence, and contemplative space, the exhibition invites viewers to consider what is carried across unstable terrain, not only across borders, but through time, identity, and shared human experience.
WHY THIS PAVILION MATTERS NOW
In a time marked by profound reflection on migration, belonging, and cultural identity, El Salvador’s Pavilion offers a distinct and deeply human contribution to the international conversation. J. Oscar Molina’s work does not frame displacement as spectacle or crisis, but as a lived condition that reshapes how individuals and communities carry memory, loss, hope, and possibility.
The pavilion positions Salvadoran contemporary art within a global discourse while honoring experiences that remain both deeply personal and universally understood.
